Description: Options is the domestic violence, rape and sexual assault shelter, education and advocacy center in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. Who We Are: Options, Inc. is a small non-profit advocacy center that provides empowerment services and emergency shelter to Burke County families in crisis. We support victims of domestic and sexual violence as they become empowered to make life decisions and break the cycles of abuse and economic dependence. Options was founded as a volunteer agency and began assisting battered women and children in 1978. Initially, Options provided rape and sexual assault advocacy, hospital accompaniment, and court advocacy for victims of violent crime. Options opened the Cliffhaven Shelter for battered women in 1990, and in 2002 expanded to a new facility. Jim’s House: Over nearly three decades of serving Burke County, Options developed four primary programs: Emergency Shelter, Domestic Violence Court Advocacy, Rape and Sexual Assault Advocacy, and Therapy. For more information about Options’ victims advocacy programs, call us at (828)438-9444 or see each program’s web page. Mission: The mission of Options, Inc. is to inform and educate the citizens of Burke County, while offering support and services to the victims of domestic violence and violent crimes. This is accomplished by providing sanctuary and compassionate services that promote empowerment, prevention, healing and recovery. Community Education: Raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence is central to Options’ mission. Our community education campaign is an important tool that we use to empower victims to come forward, and to empower Burke County citizens with knowledge. Our community education curriculum is varied and may be amended to fit the need of any local group, organization, or classroom. Options provides community trainings to educate local service providers, educators and law enforcement about responding to sexual and domestic violence. Options’ school programs are “Good Touch, Bad Touch” for preschool to second grade, “Conflict Resolution” for third to fifth grade, and “Dating Violence” for sixth to twelfth grade. If you are in Burke County and would like to arrange a time for an Options’ advocate to come speak to your church or civic group, club, business, or classroom in Burke County, call Options at (828)438-9444.
